We built TalkSwitch to be easy enough to install that you can do it yourself,
and many businesses do. Unlike virtually every other telephone system with this
much sophistication, you don't need any unusual tools or expensive technicians
with specialized training to get your TalkSwitch system up and running.
Requirements
Windows XP or Windows 2000 and minimum 256MB RAM, 160MB hard disk space and 800x600 screen resolution.
Remote Extensions
Respond faster. Collaborate better. Stay in touch anywhere. TalkSwitch
remote extensions keep you connected to your business no matter where
you are. Any phone, anywhere can be added as an extension of your system.
Cell phones, home phones or phones in other offices, other cities, even in
other countries get seamlessly integrated into your main system.
TalkSwitch remote extensions are more than simple call forwarding. You can
transfer and screen calls from your remote extensions.
It's like having your phone system with you anywhere you need it.
Mobile workers and teleworkers
Remote extensions are ideal for mobile and teleworkers. Customers, partners
and suppliers can reach them by dialing the main office number, whether
they're teleworking, on the road or in the office. Callers dial 3-digit
remote extensions directly when the auto attendant answers, or can be
transferred to a remote extension from any other extension in the system.
Sophisticated call routing
Just like local extensions, you can add remote extensions to call cascades
for sophisticated call routing options. You can have your calls
ring first at your desk, then your cell phone, then your home phone.
For your callers, the experience is seamless; you can take their
call on the golf course without them knowing you're out of the office.
Remote capacity
Each TalkSwitch system includes capacity for 10 remote extensions. The maximum
remote extension capacity is 40 for a networked system with multiple units.
Remote transfers
TalkSwitch can handle the transfer of calls to remote extensions in 3
different ways:
Connect with the same line

TalkSwitch can use the same line when forwarding a call to a remote extension.
This method can only be used when the line of the incoming call has 3-Way Calling/Conference
or Transfer service (Centrex/Plexar).
Connect with another line
If the line does not have any of these services, the call will be forwarded using another line.
Transfer and clear
1.
2.
If you have a Transfer and Clear service on your line(s), TalkSwitch can connect the
call (1) and then clear the line (2). This clears the line for use by others.
External IP Extensions
Plug your TalkSwitch extension in anywhere.
Teleworkers? Staff members who plan to work from home tomorrow? Want
to keep a phone at home connected to your business at all times?
TalkSwitch external IP extensions are the answer.
External IP extensions work just like local IP extensions, so there's
no better way to integrate offsite phones with your main office phone.
Three-digit dialing, intercom calling and membership in ring groups and
call cascades? You bet. You can even get line appearance for the office
system on your external IP extension if you're using a TalkSwitch
TS-9133i or TS-480i phone.
Your IP extension just plugs in to your existing computer network with
standard cables, too, so there's no need for additional equipment or
gateways. And if you're using TalkSwitch IP phones, configuration is a snap.
Requires IP telephone, a VoIP-enabled TalkSwitch system running configuration
software 5.0 or greater and broadband Internet connection at both locations.
Calls between external IP extensions and the main TalkSwitch system require
an available VoIP trunk on the system.
TalkSwitch systems allow you to choose a
size that fits your needs today, then add more capacity when
your company grows.
Up to 64 users per location
TalkSwitch covers up to 32 traditional phone lines, 32 VoIP trunks and 64
local extensions per location. With a modular architecture and intelligent
networking capabilities, TalkSwitch flexibly fits a wide variety of office
configurations and protects your investment as you grow.
Which TalkSwitch is for me?
To plan your ideal TalkSwitch system, figure out how many phone lines,
extensions and VoIP trunks you need. Does each employee need a phone? Are
there other phones required, such as a courtesy phone in your lobby? Add them
up for the number of extensions you need.
Your total number of lines and VoIP trunks is the maximum number of simultaneous
calls your system will handle. So if you expect to have lots of people on the
phone at the same time, you’ll need capacity for more lines or VoIP trunks than
if you have very light call traffic.
TalkSwitch models are numbered according to their capacity:
The analog extensions can use analog or IP phones. Each TalkSwitch unit also has capacity for
additional IP extensions that brings the total extension capacity to 16. So a TalkSwitch 484vs
has 8 analog or IP extenstions and 8 pure IP extensions.
You can increase capacity any time by upgrading or
networking units. Your options depend on the model (or models) of your
existing TalkSwitch system.
Networking TalkSwitch
You can combine up to 4 units, adding up the lines, extensions and VoIP trunks:
The networked system also has all of the remote extensions and voicemail boxes
of the individual units combined. New units added on the network automatically
find your existing system and clone your established configuration settings. The
networked units work as a single, unified system.
TalkSwitch plugs into your LAN with standard Ethernet cabling. TalkSwitch VS
models can all be networked together, as long as they're all running the same
version of the TalkSwitch software. VS units can also be networked with TalkSwitch
48-CA and 48-CVA units.
Upgrading TalkSwitch
Many TalkSwitch models can be upgraded to add capacity. TalkSwitch
upgrades come in several capacities:

Phone Freedom
TalkSwitch systems support traditional analog phones and IP
telephones that plug into your data network, rather than into a
phone jack. Plus, you can use third-party phones.
You’re free to choose the phones you want. You can go for the advanced
features of IP phones or stick to the classic simplicity of analog,
or even mix the two. TalkSwitch analog and IP phones are built to work
seamlessly with the system.
TalkSwitch also works with standard analog and selected IP phones made
by other manufacturers. Have telephones already? You can use them.
Cost-conscious? You can find inexpensive sets. Prefer to use a specific
brand, cordless phone, soft phone or one with special functions? With
TalkSwitch, you buy the phones you want.
Supported IP phones
To ensure interoperability with the best IP phones, TalkSwitch uses the
industry-leading SIP standard for IP-based telephony. For best
performance, we've tested the following IP phones for use with
TalkSwitch. Keep an eye on this list — we'll be adding new phones as we
test them.
- Polycom IP 301, IP 320, IP 330, IP 430, IP 501, IP 550, IP 601
and IP 650 running boot ROM version 3.2.2.xxxx, and firmware
application (SIP) version 2.1.2.0078.

or greater, and firmware application version 1.1.4.18.

Some TalkSwitch features may work slightly differently with different
phones. Specific firmware versions for each phone are supported. For
more information or configuration details, see our IP phone resources
page.
IP phone operation requires
TalkSwitch VS, 48-CA or 48-CVA systems running software 4.0 or greater.
